The old man and the sea
The midday sun shone on his brown skin
His straw hat was far too big for him
He was stretched out and looked peaceful.
He had no home, only a boat.
And so many stayed to watch him for a moment
And so many would have gladly traded places with him
The old man and the sea
There where time
So slowly slips into eternity
On their island with the waves
The old man and the sea
From now on
Remain always spontaneously before my eyes
Saying goodbye was not easy for me
The old man and the sea
The evening I always spent with him
His wine and fish was also for me
The old songs he sang to me
The evening passed too quickly
And his net was always fuller than others’
But most of the fish he set free again The old man and the sea
From now on
Always spontaneously appear to me
Saying goodbye was not easy for me
The old man and the sea
The summer freckles are now off my skin
Faded, they are almost faded
The old man disappeared and so did his barge,
In vain I asked for him
He was sunk in the sea along with his ship
For he brought too many fish for once.
The old man and the sea
Where time
So slowly slips into eternity
On their island with the waves along
The old man and the sea
Henceforth
Remain always spontaneously before my eyes
Warmly embraced resting with his two
The old man and the sea.
